Mark C. Schwing is the President of CASS Professional Services (CPS).  He leads the CPS efforts to support Northrop-Grumman Corp, EADS-North America and other companies in a wide range of defense and mobility related projects. 

He was previously a Senior Engineer for Northrop Corporation.  He performed engineering development work on future aircraft and missile systems at Northrop’s Advanced Systems Division in Pico Rivera, California.  He was responsible for the integration of various weapons and armament onto the B-2 bomber and was the Lead Project Engineer for a $7 million effort to evaluate and integrate black-world missile systems onto the B-2.

A highly experienced aviator, Mark has over 30 years of military and civilian flying experience.  He has over 12,000 flight hours as a commercial airline pilot and has extensive experience with both Boeing and Airbus aircraft systems and avionics.  He is an FAA-certificated Airline Transport Pilot and holds aircraft Type Ratings on the B-777, A-320, B-747, DC-10, CE-500 and L-382.

Mark is currently a Boeing-777 Captain for United Airlines based in Washington DC.  Most of his flying is to Europe, but he also maintains special qualification to fly long range Extended Operations (ETOPS) flights to the Middle East, Asia and South America.  He was previously an Airbus-320 Captain for seven years and also has many years of experience as a Boeing-747 First Officer and Boeing-727 First Officer / Flight Engineer.

He retired as a Colonel in the US Air Force in 2006, after 30 years of active duty and Reserve service.  He graduated from the US Air Force Academy in 1976 and spent most of his career in Operations, logging more than 4100 military flight hours in the KC-10, KC-135 and C-130.  He concluded his Air Force career at Headquarters, US Pacific Command, were he served on the staff of the Operations Directorate (J3).
 
Mark is an Air Force mobility expert and has extensive experience in all aspects of air refueling and airlift operations.   He began his Air Force career flying the KC-135 tanker.  In 1981, he was selected as one of sixteen pilots in the initial cadre of crewmembers for the new KC-10 tanker.  He participated in the initial operational testing of the KC-10 aircraft and pioneered KC-10 / SR-71 air refueling.  In 1988, he became an airlifter when he transitioned to flying the       C-130.  He was a tactically-qualified Aircraft Commander and deployed to Middle East during Operation Desert Shield.

He is an authority on Joint Service command and control systems and military crisis actions planning/operations.  He brings a wealth of experience from his years at US Pacific Command (USPACOM), where he served as a Watch Director of the USPACOM Joint Operations Center (JOC) and Battle Captain of the USPACOM Crisis Actions Team (CAT).  In these capacities, he coordinated the day-to-day activity of all USPACOM forces and directed the JOC during numerous theatre-wide exercises, real-world crises and disaster relief operations.

He has a Master of Science degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from the United States Air Force Academy.  He is also a graduate of various Air Force schools, including Air War College and Air Command and Staff College.

He is a member of the Airlift/Tanker Association, Reserve Officers Association, Air Line Pilots Association, USAFA Association of Graduates and various other aviation and military professional organizations.
